Kerala, an Indian state is one among the most sought after tourist destinations in the world. Famous for its lush greenery and scenic mountain ranges, the state attracts tourists from countries around the world. Good natured literate people are friendly and accomadating. Kerala can also be rated easily as one of the safest tourist locations. Kerala a state on the Arabian sea in the south western India, is guarded on one side by tall ghat mountain ranges in the east. Arabian sea creates a strip of beautiful beach line in the west. The neighbouring states Karnataka on the North and Tamil nadu on East. The population of Kerala is about 31,948,619 (2001 est.) and an area of 38863 sq.mts. Kerala is divided into three regions. The fourteen districts which is distributed in these three regions with Thiruvananthapuram as the capital. The northern Kerala includes Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Malappuram, which also known as Malabar regions.Thrissur and eranakulam makes the middle Kerala.The southern Kerala with Kottayam, Alappuzha, Iduki, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram (which is the largest city in Kerala) which is famous as travancore. The leading ports in Kerala are Kochi and Kollam. Malayalam is the language spoken in Kerala. The main crops in kerala are coconut, rice, spices, tea,r ubber etc. The mountains in kerala has the forests of teak, ebony and rosewood and a wide variety of wildlife .
Kerala the gods own country is blessed with a rich history of arts and culture,which evolved across hundreds of years .The variety in costumes and the rhythm of musics which is close to heart makes the performance arts of kerala unique among others. The artform of Kerala can be divided into groups like classical, folk ,finearts etc. The classical art form like Kathakali, NatyaSastra, Chakyarkoothu, Ottanthullal, Koodiyattam, Ramanattam, Mohiniyattam & Pava koothu are entertaining and at the same time based on classical heredity of great Dravidian ancestory. The sparkling gems are Kathakali and Koodiyattam. The folk arts like Theyyam, Thiruvathirakali, Chavittunatakam, Markkam kali, Oppana are related to religions. These art forms are reflections of their strong religeous belief. The major fine art form in kerala is the mural painting. Kerala's mural painting which is classified as fresco-sessco is a mirror of mythology and legends. These are said to be drawn in between 9-12th century. The masterpieces of mural paitings in kerala are exhibited in Padmanabhapuram palace in Thiruvananthapuram, Krishnapuram palace at Kayamkulam, Shiva temple at Etumanur, Mattanchery, Kottakal etc. Kerala is famous for its handicrafts too.
